Microsoft is doing everything it can to gain momentum and catch up with the likes of Samsung and Apple when it comes to smartphone sales.  To achieve this goal, Microsoft released the new Lumia 640 XL dual SIM smartphone with great features and solid build to the Nigerian market.  This phone is affordable and come with great features as discussed below.  In addition, the device made out of a polycarbonate plastic, feels good in hand, weighs only 171g, and has dimensions 157.9 x 81.5 x 9 mm.


SIM card, Network, and Connectivity
Microsoft Lumia 640 XL is a dual micro SIM smartphone with cellular connectivity bands of GSM network 850MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz, 1900MHz, and WCDMA 850MHz, 900MHz, 1900MHz, and 2100MHz.  This makes it possible for you to use the Lumia 640 XL anywhere in Nigeria and even other countries.
As for connectivity, the device has a NFC chip for payment, sharing and tagging, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0, micro USB 2.0, and a 3.5mm earphone jack.  We will not fail to mention that it has GPS, AGPS and GLONASS capabilities.

Screen Display and Resolution
The device comes with a 5.7-inch clear black IPS LCD capacitive multi-touch touchscreen with a display resolution of 1280 x 720 (HD) with 16 million colors.  This brings the pixel density to 259 PPI.  The device comes with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3, low power mode and sunlight readability enhancements to make sure that the screen is viewable outdoor.

Operating System, Processor, and Memory
The device comes with a Windows Phone 8.1 with Lumia Denim to keep operations going and steady.  There is OTA update and as far Microsoft is concerned, there will be an upgrade to Windows Phone 10 when it becomes available.  Inside the device is a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz to keep activities running.  In addition, Microsoft threw in a 1GB RAM to enable a lag-free use of the phone especially when multitasking combined with a 8GB internal memory for storing of images, videos and other related files and an expandable memory card slot that support MicroSD card up to 128GB for even more storage room and 30GB of online storage.



Camera
Camera is an essential part of any smartphone of this generation and Lumia 640 XL did not break that chain.  The device comes with ZEISS optics back camera with aperture of f/2.0, sensor size 1/3 inch, and a focal length of 28mm.  The 640 XL comes with a 13MP back camera with features like auto-focus, 4X digital zoom, image sensor, dynamic flash, and a LED flash light.  Videos can be recorded at full HD, 1080p (1920 x 1080) at 30fps and ability to zoom videos 4x. In addition, there is continuous autofocus while shooting the video and a video light when recording in low light area.  The front facing camera is a 5.0 MP wide-angle camera with aperture f/2.4 and focal length 24mm. It can also record videos in full HD at 30fps but with no 4x zoom feature.

Battery and Sensor
The importance of a great battery life on a smartphone cannot be overemphasized.  The Lumia 640 Xl comes with a solid replaceable battery capacity of 3000mAh and voltage 3.8V capable of staying alive of 39 days on standby, 31.3h maximum on 2G talk time, 23.7h maximum on 3G talk time, 13h while browsing on Wi-Fi, and 11.7h when watching videos.  The device comes with ambient light sensor, accelerometer, proximity, magnetometer sensor, and SensorCore.

Verdict
Microsoft Lumia 640 XL is a great smartphone that comes in four different colors: white, blue, black, and orange.  The pros about this smartphone is that it has great battery life, awesome camera, and very stable operating system, and the cons is that the device is bulky and display could be better for the price of N48,000.
