To prevent data loss and leakage, most of us would back up our iDevice to our computer and encrypt the backup with the help of iTunes. However, have you ever thought that what you can do if you forget the password of your backup? Recently, this case did happen to me. Briefly speaking, I forgot the password to unlock my iPhone backup. Fortunately, I’ve found my backup password and would like to share the solution step by step with all of you.

Tip: If you run iTunes and use the wrong code to restore your iPhone backup, you will be informed that iTunes could not restore the iPhone because the password was incorrect.


Step 1: Download, install and run an iTunes backup password recovery app on computer.

FYI, the program I used is called iTunes Password Genius.

Step 2: Add the encrypted backup file to the app.

Sub-procedure 1: Click Open in the software.


Sub-procedure 2: Choose the backup file automatically found, and then tap OK.


Step 3: Start unlocking the backup password.

Sub-procedure 1: Choose a password attack type and complete related settings.

 Sub-procedure 2: Tap the Start button to begin decryption.


Step 4: Wait for the backup password to be recovered.
